Forty years ago families and friends of people living with the little understood Motor Neurone Disease reached out to others affected via local newspapers. They wanted to bring about a change in their society by creating an understanding of how people suffered from the disease.

Their aim was simple – find sources of support and funding for the fight to find a treatment or cure. They didn’t call or even think of themselves as volunteers at the time, but that is just what they and thousands of their successors have been.

If you seek a volunteering experience that allows you to make an immediate and long lasting difference to local people; come join MNDA”

From those tentative days in 1979, the Motor Neurone Disease Association was born and has flourished and is still delivering the founders’ key aims of campaigning and awareness, support for people living with MND and the quest for a cure or treatment at its heart.

Volunteers in local communities remain at the centre of all our work. They build amazing networks of support providing guidance, advocacy, respite and friendship to people affected by the disease.

Volunteers in local communities remain at the centre of all our work. They build amazing networks of support providing guidance, advocacy, respite and friendship to people affected by the disease.

They fundraise for research, care and to provide financial help to offset some of the enormous burdens of this debilitating condition.

Our volunteers campaign, educate and influence decision makers locally and nationally to improve policy and practices to ensure people get the best possible help they deserve.
