The Family Volunteering Club is a project working with charities to create really fun volunteering sessions that are specifically designed for kids to do with their grown-ups. Sessions can involve all sorts, as long as it’s fun, kid friendly and helpful!
From planting bulbs at community gardens and singing to fundraise for a food bank, to doing miniature railway maintenance and organising donations of baby clothes.
The reason we set up this project is because so often, adults do voluntary work in their spare time but then after they have a child, they stop. Life is busy with kids, and family time is precious.
So to help, we’re creating volunteering opportunities which mean families can help out together at local charities without compromising on family time.
Kids love it because they get to do all sorts of fun and unusual tasks, and adults love it because they get to meet other families and introduce their kids to the idea that it’s fun and important to contribute to your community.
In Autumn 2019 we ran a range of pilot sessions in London and they were really popular. We’re currently working with partners to further the programme in London, and the rest of the UK.
Families make great volunteers! Kids are enthusiastic and love to get stuck in, and adults bring skill and care”
What do families like about the Family Volunteering Club? Here’s what some of them say!
“Exposing my child to gardening – something we can’t do in our London flat! And spending time with other local parents doing something fun.”
“Interactive, well run, friendly organisers, meeting other local families with children the same age, the activity, safe space for kids, feeling of helping the community.”
“I loved the freedom of being able to do as much as you could, whilst having your children there.”
