Alzheimer's Society

Our Dementia Friends programme has been running since 2014 and we now have over 3.4 million Dementia Friends across England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Anyone of any age can become a Dementia Friend, it’s simply about learning more about dementia and then turning that understanding into action. Once a Dementia Friend has joined, we help them to take action in whatever they would like.

Join us for an interactive session where participants will come together to share experiences in tackling community emergencies (whether that's flooding, snow or COVID-19), map the gaps in community resilience and consider ways learnings can be taken forward for the future.

Meet the Communities Prepared team, hear the stories of some of the communities we've been working with, and participate in a range of activities to explore questions such as:

• What is the future of emergencies and are we prepared for them?
• What is the role of community volunteers and how does this complement the role of the emergency services?
• What can communities do when there are gaps in support?
• How has community volunteering been impacted by the pandemic, and how do we build on this going forward?

How to undertake a resilient community defibrillator project

Community Heartbeat Trust

It is easy to just install a defibrillator. But these are medical devices covered by legislation, and also need a surrounding support and governance scheme. This session will explore best practice and help guide you to a well run and resilience project, in an area littered with different equipment, inaccurate and confusing guidance, and commercial interests.

Admiral Nurses: Leading the way with Dementia care

There are currently 900,000 people with dementia in the UK. This is projected to rise to 1.6 million by 2040. Dementia UK provides specialist dementia support for families through our Admiral Nurse service. We believe that everyone who needs the support of a specialist nurse should get one, and that's why we're working hard to increase the number of Admiral Nurses across the UK.

Guide Dogs: How much do you know?

At Guide Dogs we provide many services to people living with sight loss. The best known of these services are our amazing guide dogs.

Our demonstration will showcase some of the behaviours we teach our dogs during their training with opportunities for audience participation on stage. We will give you an insight into the world of dog training at Guide Dogs with the positive training methods we use to keep our dogs happy, healthy and thriving.

We will tell you all about many of our other life-changing services that we provide, including services specifically designed for children and young people, and how these services give confidence and opportunities to those living with sight loss to live the life they choose.

How has COVID-19 globally affected access to medicines?

International Health Partners

Before COVID-19 two billion people already did not have reliable access to essential medicines – undermining healthcare provision and costing lives. The pandemic has now further reduced access to quality medicines in lower-income countries. In this session you will get to hear about Europe's largest coordinator of donated medicines, International Health Partners, on how targeted medical donations from healthcare companies can supply disaster hit and vulnerable communities around the world.
